SUNFLOWER SEEDS & OIL

In the last 20-25 years, the industry of oilseeds, vegetable oils, and their derived products has rapidly developed worldwide and in Türkiye. The global market for oilseeds and vegetable oils has significantly expanded, with a notable increase in global production driven by rising demand in East Asia. Additionally, in recent years, the increase in demand for biofuels has positively influenced oilseed production. Oilseeds are particularly important for food production, with oil extraction being a priority in this process. However, some plants can also be used as additives to flour and other foodstuffs. The waste resulting from the processing of these products can be used in feed production.

Considering the increase in food and energy demand, the prices of oilseeds and vegetable oils are expected to continue rising. In our country, sunflower is a significant oil crop with the largest area of cultivation and production. It is a critical oil plant for Türkiye, especially in the Thrace Region, where it is a fundamental crop in crop rotation, due to its wide adaptation capability and suitability for mechanization.
