MARGARINE
Margarine is a mixture consisting of 73% palm oil, 24% cottonseed oil, 1% sunflower oil, and the remaining part is made up of milk, water, and various additives. The saturated fat content in this mixture is low, approximately around 15%. In Türkiye, the annual margarine production capacity is approximately 1 million tons. Due to high cost and insufficiency, vegetable oils have replaced animal fats to meet a significant portion of the fat necessary for human nutrition. Fats are subjected to various processes after their raw state to be presented for consumption in the form of liquid oil or margarine. In Türkiye's vegetable oil market, the concentration rates are observed to be quite high due to the scarcity of firms operating in the solid fats sector. Annual per capita margarine consumption varies between countries: it is about 6 kg in the UK, 18 kg in Denmark, 24 kg in the Netherlands, 26 kg in Belgium, 18 kg in Singapore, and approximately 8.5 kg in Türkiye.
