Representing Türkiye at the Foodex Japan Fair held in Tokyo between March 5-8, 2024 on the 100th anniversary of the political relations between Türkiye and Japan, Turkish Food Exporters attracted great interest from the visitors at the fair. Our Ambassador to Tokyo, Korkut Güngen and the accompanying delegation visited the Turkish Food Exporters' stand and made evaluations about the Japanese market.
EİB Cereals Chairman Muhammet Öztürk: "We find the 100 million dollar exports of the Turkish cereals, pulses and oilseeds sector to Japan, which exports 12.4 billion dollars in 2023, below its potential. Our exporters can strengthen their position in the Japanese market with quality and different products. The majority of the visitors at the Foodex Japan Fair were qualified buyers, they came to the fair to make purchases. Japan is a distant country, but it is a big market of 120 million people. While the biggest export item of our sector here is pasta, we can emphasize confectionery products. We can increase our exports in products such as laurel, thyme, sesame, poppy seeds."
GAİB Cereals Chairman Celal Kadooğlu: "It is very important for us to open up to the Asia-Pacific region and increase our recognition in this region. That's why we didn't think of our activities at Foodex Japan only in terms of our trade relations with Japan. On the other hand, the fragility of this country's food supply and its dependence on food imports is an interesting factor for us. Türkiye's cereal exports to Japan last year were close to 100 million dollars. The success of our promotional activities in Tokyo has raised our 2024 year-end target even higher. We will continue our activities to win new markets without interruption."
AHBİB Chairman Veysel Memiş: "One of the stops of our efforts to diversify our markets and reach potential buyers in different geographies was Japan. As an industrially advanced and economically developed country, Japan is a country that has not achieved its sufficiency in food. One feature of this country, which allocates large budgets for food imports every year, is that it has a gastronomically highly respected cuisine. Millions of tourists visit the country every year and taste Japanese food. We want to become a strong supplier for Japanese cuisine and open up to many new markets through this country."
